An apparition is a supernatural vision. That is to see something or someone that is not normally seen with ordinary human power - like angels, saints, the Virgin Mary, Jesus, the Holy Spirit or God the Father. The Church is always careful in accepting claims of apparitions, since illusions and hallucinations are so common, and because of the fact that the devil can do things to fool us and take our focus off God.
